So, Friday I got 5 medals. Moved up in one category from Beginner to Novice, but have no idea which one... too excited about getting medals to write it down :))
Will get the Feis results in a week or so and find out. (oh, and no residuals from the magnesium fairy LOL)
This week has been the pits. Tuesday morning my Vaxes all go haywire and stop talking to each other and decide to hose up and crash ( these are machines that were installed back in 1985ish, (that's what, 25 years or so?)are still humming along nicely and are about as big as a standard sized refrigerator). These machines run so well and are never down, that when they hose up, we all sit around for about 20 minutes and try to remember how to trouble shoot them and where to look for problems. LOL. My disk farm and a bunch of windows servers (we have about 140 of them) start upchucking too. The users are screaming and it's all pandamonium...
So I go ask the network guys what gives on with VLAN1 (the subnet that all these machines are on) and they say, oh nothing. So, it takes about an hour to convince them that their gear is hosed. Sure enough, after about 3 hours of stewing and spewing, they decide to turn one router (that was not doing anything but spewing) off and reboot some other ones. Everything comes back up just peachy and working fine. All but one VAX which has a blown network card. So, parts have to be flown in from the warehouse, overnighted from Caliprunia... the land of the fruits and nuts. Wednesday, everything gets repaired a day late and a dollar short.
And Thursday, funny, but most the network slowness has disappeared and my disk farm is talking better than it has in quite some time... ummmmmmmm maybe they should reboot the cisco switches once in awhile.
ya think !!!
Nahhhh I ain't a computer geek, just sound like one. Actually I think we should all go back to finger dialing phones with wires to the wall, paper and pencil, talking face to face... stuff like 'dat!!
Geeeeeeeeeeez, glad it's friday...
